Teacher Profiles

Michelle Dedwylder, Director

Hello, my name is Michelle Dedwylder. I have been working at The Sloan School as the School Administrator since July of 2004. I feel truly blessed to know everyday when I wake up I'm going to a job that I love. That is true for 3 reasons:

1. Darin and Christy Sloan provide such an amazing working atmosphere that I feel honored to work for them.
2. My coworkers: the teachers are absolutely the best to work with and for.
3. The most important reason I love my job is your children. They light up my life every time I look at them.

Not only am I blessed to work at The Sloan School but also with a wonderful family. I have been married to my amazing husband since 1999. We have been blessed with 2 beautiful children. Wyatt and Whitney are our greatest joy and true miracles from God. Before I came to The Sloan School I worked for a Fortune 500 Chemical sales company in marketing. What a change I made. Working for CEOs to working with our future CEOs. When I'm not having fun at the school my favorite hobby is to scrapbook but I also really enjoy shopping, decorating, and spending time with my precious family and friends.

Amy Page, Teacher

My name is Amy Page and I am very excited to be teaching at The Sloan School. I graduated from the University of North Texas in 1994 with a degree in Elementary Education. I taught in Irving ISD for five years. I enjoyed my time there, but the Lord was calling me to The Sloan School. I have been at The Sloan School since 1999. I love being here because I enjoy teaching the A-Beka curriculum and I love the staff that I work with. I have a beautiful daughter named Lindsey and an amazing son named Miles who fill my days with lots of joy and laughter. I have a wonderful husband, who I have been married to since 1995. In my spare time I love scrapbooking, reading, decorating, and watching TV.

Ms Lilly, Spanish & Music Teacher

My name is Ms. Lilly and once again I am so happy that I will be teaching Spanish and music at The Sloan School. For the past ten years, I have enjoyed working with the children at our school and I would like to tell you about what we'll be learning this year. MUSIC: We'll be learning about musical instruments and their different sounds, singing favorite songs, and learning about music theory so they will be ready when they start learning to play the recorder. SPANISH: We'll be learning ABC's, which will help the children be more familiar with Spanish sounds. We'll start learning numbers, adding 10 numbers every week. We'll also sing songs in Spanish. These will be songs they know in English so the tunes will be very familiar to them. Finally, we'll play LOTERIA (bingo), using ABCs, numbers and shapes. I'm looking forward to meeting your child and having fun together learning two beautiful languages, MUSIC and SPANISH! Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to be a part of your child's life.

Jessica Brown, Teacher

My name is Jessica Brown and I am overjoyed to be teaching Pre-Kindergarten at The Sloan School. I started teaching the Abeka curriculum in 2004, which was my first year as a teacher. I fell in love with Abeka, and even more with teaching children about God's love! I have three beautiful daughters and a fiancé who love and support my passion for teaching.

I was born and raised in Irving, Texas and graduated from MacArthur High School. I am thrilled to be teaching at the Sloan School!

Erin Kelly, Teacher

My name is Erin Kelly and I have been with the Sloan School since 2011. I am a 3 year old teacher and could not be happier to work with these precious children! I am originally from Valencia, California but moved to Coppell with my family when I was 11. I love sports and played softball and basketball in high school, as well as receiving a 1st degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. My first job, when I was 16 years old, was at the Coppell Family YMCA. That job became a 12 year career with the YMCA where I started in the nursery, but moved on to work with the afterschool and summer camp program as a counselor, site director and camp director. I studied criminal justice at North Central Texas College and at the University of North Texas with the intention of working in law enforcement, but the Lord was calling me in a different direction, as my love for children and passion for teaching took over my heart.

My free time is spent mostly with my amazing family, especially my precious niece and nephew! I love to cook and am always looking for new things to try! I have been bowling in my league team for close to five years now, I enjoy doing crossword puzzles, and I sing in the Irving Bible Church choir. I truly believe I have the best job in the world, and I am so blessed to be at The Sloan School. We have amazing teachers, students and parents!

Maria Castellanos, Teacher

Hello, my name is Maria Castellanos. I grew up in New York, and moved to Texas in 1989 with my three beautiful daughters, Francheska and Valerie, my twins who are married now and have both worked at the Sloan School, and Rebecca. I am also blessed with a little girl who is 13 years old; her name is Keren Maria and she attends Stonegate Christian Academy.

I have worked with children for over 25 years. My first three and a half years of teaching were as a Bible teacher in New York at St. Anthony's Catholic School. I have also enjoyed teaching CCD classes to third and fourth graders at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church as well as fourth through sixth graders in Holy Family Catholic Church. I have been here at The Sloan School since 1995 and have loved every minute of it! Working for Christy and Darin is and has been a blessing in my life. I feel this is my second home. I had the amazing experience of going to Pensacola Christian College to receive my A-Beka training, and I have been the lead Pre-K teacher at The Sloan School for over twenty years.

I am currently attending High Point Church where I have been since 2009. I enjoy sports, crafts and gardening. My family and friends are the heart of my soul. I believe it is a privilege and blessing working with children and making a difference in their lives. Teaching the word of God is what I enjoy the most. I love children for many reasons, but especially for their genuine love. God has given me the special gift of teaching. Teaching is what He has called me to do and I thank him every day for that gift. I have true respect for children and believe no child should be neglected of love and respect. Children are truly a blessing in our life.

Ms Cassidy, Teacher

My name is Ms. Cassidy and I am excited to be teaching 2 year olds at the Sloan School. I was a student here from 2001-2005, and have so many special memories from my time here as a student. I enjoy traveling, watching Alabama football and playing pool. I am looking forward to loving on my students every day!

Kerri Hoang, Teacher

Hello! My name is Kerri Hoang, and teaching at The Sloan School is one of my biggest blessings. God brought me here in 2006, and I have been leading The Kindergarten Kingdom ever since!

After graduating from Dallas Baptist University in 1996, the Lord led me in many different directions; I've taught in both public and private school settings, grades Pre-K through 4th, but this is definitely my home! Coming to work each morning makes me smile, and loving my students is the highlight of my day. It is the sweetest feeling knowing that Jesus walks our halls.

I married my best friend Scott in 1999, and we have a son, Isaiah, who is now in high school. And yes, he was a part of The Sloan School family from the age of 4 until he graduated the 5th grade! We also have a cat named Barnaby who makes life fun! In my spare time, I love going to the movies, eating out, shopping, and adding to my frog collection!

Nichole Roberts, Teacher

Hello, my name is Nichole Roberts. I was raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado where I attended a Christian school that used A Beka curriculum, so I am very familiar with it! I graduated from Colorado State University, and then moved to Texas in 2009 to marry my husband. We have two children in preschool here at Sloan, Givonna and Ace. I felt a calling towards Christian education, and the Lord opened a door for me at The Sloan School, at just the right time. I always look forward to getting to know my students and serving them well!

Lori Sigler, School Cook

Hello! My name is Lori Sigler. I was born in St. Louis, MO, but grew up in Plano, TX and Rockville, MD. I graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in photography. I have been married to my husband, Steve, since 1996. We have a son, Andrew, and a daughter, Ashley, that both attend schools here in Irving. In my spare time I love playing with my dog and going to watch my daughter play soccer! I have been working at The Sloan School since March of 2000. The best part of working here is watching all of the children grow from year to year. They grow up so fast!

Kim Bacon, Office Manager

My name is Kim Bacon and I have been the Office Manager at The Sloan School since 2010, but I came to know the school years before when my niece came here for preschool. I fell in love with The Sloan School when I came to Madi's kindergarten graduation. I was amazed by the love and learning that were on display that night. God's presence was everywhere, in the student's smiles, in the teacher's tone and in Darin and Christy's tears of pride and joy. I was incredibly humbled by and thankful for God's love for me when, a few years later, he brought me to work at The Sloan School.

I was born in Irving and have lived here most of my life. I graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design. I was a graphic designer in Dallas for 7 years before God called me to work with children. I love working in the office at the school because I get to see every single child each day!

I married my best friend, Brett, in 2009. We attend First Baptist Church Irving where he teaches and I sing in the choir. My husband is the best Bible teacher I have ever had the opportunity to learn under, and I am loving our journey as husband and wife. We both love to cook, and in my spare time I also love to read, watch movies and craft, craft, craft!

Amy Fields, Teacher

My name is Amy Fields and I am so happy to be teaching first grade at The Sloan School! I have always loved learning and teaching. My oldest son wants to be a science engineer and my youngest son wants to be a paleontologist when they grow up. When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a teacher!

I got my Bachelors Degree in Theology with a minor in education from the University of Dallas in 1996, and then taught freshman theology at Bishop Lynch High School for 4 years. After Bishop Lynch, I taught at Our Lady of Perpetual Help grade school in Dallas, for 6 years, and that is where I fell in love with teaching at the elementary level! It is such a gift to spend the entire day with students and get to know them through each subject and recess time.

After staying at home with my two boys and homeschooling one of them for two years, I have been very happy to be back teaching full time. As a family, we love learning, camping and hiking. Homeschooling allowed us to do a good deal of all of these! But we were all ready to be a part of a learning community. I am happy that God brought me to The Sloan School and I love teaching here.

Darlene Dean, Substitute Teacher and Tutor

My name is Mrs. Darlene Dean. It is a privilege to be a teacher at The Sloan School! I graduated from UTA of Tyler in 1978 with a teaching degree in General Education and Learning Differences for grades PK-8th. I taught in public schools for 32 years before retiring in 2012. I thought if I ever went back to teaching it would be in a Private Christian School! That opportunity came to me in the summer of 2013 at The Sloan School. I look forward to teaching every day!

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Howard, for 44 years. We have three grown children and ten grandchildren. Throughout the year, we visit with them as often as possible, but when summer comes, we see them quite a bit!

My husband and I sing in our church choir. I volunteer at DFW USO on Mondays after school and I am a Coordinator for the UFT-Unite For Troops with Porter's Army Navy Store in Irving.

I have a true passion for teaching and am thrilled to be a part of the team at The Sloan School. We strive to develop a joy for learning in our students!

Lindsey Waldrum, Teacher
My name is Lindsey Waldrum and I teach third grade at The Sloan School. I graduated from the University of North Texas in 2009 with a Bachelors in Human Development and Family Studies, and pursued my teaching certification after graduation. I have been teaching ever since! I was a passionate student and I love to pass on my passion for learning to the students that I teach.

God has blessed me with so much to be thankful for, and that includes my amazing family. I married my soccer fanatic husband in 2012 and we had our beautiful daughter in July of 2014, and then our adorable son in September 2015. They are the joy of our life and I could not imagine life without them!

When I am not teaching, grading or planning wonderful things for us to do at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, running, playing/watching soccer, DIY Pinterest projects, shopping, dining-out, and adding decorations to our house!!
