FAQ
The Sloan School desires your child to be able to express themselves freely and honestly without fear of rejection or ridicule. Because each child is unique, temperaments and behavior will vary and so we try to promote prosocial behavior within the framework of each child’s own personality by encouragement and modeling. In The Sloan School, children are involved in constructive activities, which lessens the chance for discipline problems. We understand that all children misbehave sometimes requiring redirection by the teacher. No punishment of a harsh nature will be used nor will your child be humiliated or embarrassed. The Sloan School will use positive reinforcement whenever possible, and your child will have his good behavior recognized and encouraged. When a child openly defies an adult caregiver or his/her actions could lead to injury to self or others, the following steps of discipline are taken:
If there is an ongoing discipline problem, we will contact the parents for a conference so we can work together to correct it. If the problem persists, we will require a child to be evaluated by a doctor, counselor or other specialized professional. This help must be secured by the parents. We reserve the right to terminate the attendance of any child who is a continuing problem, injures other children or disrupts the normal routine of the school. The primary goal of discipline is to encourage children to respect other people and to become a responsible, constructive citizen by developing self-discipline.
