How many students are enrolled in The Sloan School?
We have approximately 130+ students enrolled at The Sloan School.
What is The Sloan Schools' discipline policy?

The Sloan School desires your child to be able to express themselves freely and honestly without fear of rejection or ridicule. Because each child is unique, temperaments and behavior will vary and so we try to promote prosocial behavior within the framework of each child’s own personality by encouragement and modeling. In The Sloan School, children are involved in constructive activities, which lessens the chance for discipline problems. We understand that all children misbehave sometimes requiring redirection by the teacher. No punishment of a harsh nature will be used nor will your child be humiliated or embarrassed. The Sloan School will use positive reinforcement whenever possible, and your child will have his good behavior recognized and encouraged. When a child openly defies an adult caregiver or his/her actions could lead to injury to self or others, the following steps of discipline are taken:

  1. verbal warning and attempt to redirect behavior positively,
  2. “time out” away from the other children, while remaining in the classroom in order to “think about” his behavior,
  3. visit to Administrator’s office for conference.

If there is an ongoing discipline problem, we will contact the parents for a conference so we can work together to correct it. If the problem persists, we will require a child to be evaluated by a doctor, counselor or other specialized professional. This help must be secured by the parents. We reserve the right to terminate the attendance of any child who is a continuing problem, injures other children or disrupts the normal routine of the school. The primary goal of discipline is to encourage children to respect other people and to become a responsible, constructive citizen by developing self-discipline.

What are the drop-off and pick-up procedures at The Sloan School?
Children must be left in the presence of a staff member each day. Only parents or persons authorized by a parent may pick up a child. If someone other than you will be picking up your child, please let the office staff know in advance. Even if that person is listed on your consent form, we still need authorization by you when you bring your child to school that day. If you are calling to let us know, we will call you back to confirm unless we recognize your voice over the phone. Identification must be presented by that individual at the time of pick up. There are no exceptions to this rule. If you forget to inform us or the individual cannot show identification, we cannot release your child. If you would like to come in to bring or pick up your child, please park on the left side of the drive (street side by the trees). If you would like us to get your child out of your car, please pull through on the right side (school side) up to the doors. In the afternoons, if you would like us to call your child to the front and bring him to you, pull through on the right side (school side) up to the doors. Please do not park in the drive through lane. We also ask that you pick up your child through the front office doors at all times. Please let anyone who will be picking up your child know about our parking procedures.

What is The Sloan School dress code policy?
Our private school students wear uniforms provided by Mills Uniform Company. Boys wear an oxford shirt with a custom tie, with navy blue pants or shorts on Mondays and on most field trips. On other days, boys wear a red or white polo shirt, custom embroidered and ordered through Finish Line Prints. A navy cotton web belt, also purchased from Mills Uniform Company, must be worn daily. Shoes need to be solid brown or black and socks must be white or navy crew socks. Girls wear a custom jumper and peter pan blouse with a red continental tie, or a custom skirt with a middy blouse and navy blue middy tie. Girls must also wear navy bike shorts under the jumper or skirt each day. Shoes must be navy or black Mary Janes, navy and white oxfords, or plain white tennis shoes, with either navy or white ankle socks. Since preschoolers learn through play and spend time outside everyday, we prefer that they wear play clothes. Tennis shoes are best for running and climbing and are safer than boots and sandals. Dressing in layers is helpful when weather is chilly in the morning and warm in the afternoon. Please dress your child so that they can easily maneuver their own clothing when going to the bathroom. Belts, suspenders, overalls and clothes with complicated fasteners are not easy to get on and off. We politely ask that you please not send your child to school in dress clothes or fancy shoes. All Preschool and Kindergarten children should have a complete change of clothes at school at all times. Clothing should be clearly marked with the child’s name in permanent marker.
